We save energy, minimize waste and thus reduce our carbon footprint.
Product-efficient Elements
Most of ARCTIC's product-innovation comes from our focus on increasing energy efficiency. We look for ways to ensure our products to do more while using less energy. As a specialist in computer cooling, ARCTIC believes it is critical that our products contain all of the significant elements and certifications regarding energy-efficiency.
80 PLUS Certification / ECO 80 / EUP
All ARCTIC's products achieve the '80 PLUS' efficiency requirement, where the power supply of each device will achieve at least 80% efficiency at all three specified loads (20%, 50% and 100% of maximum rated power). Besides that we fulfill the latest EUP standard regarding standby power consumption and thus minimize your electricity bill.
EU RoHS and REACH Directives
All our products worldwide fulfill the latest RoHS and REACH legislation, and do not contain any of the hazardous substances listed therein nor do we use them in the production process or equipment. This protects the factory workers as well as our environment.
WEEE Directives
Our product materials comply with the WEEE legislation. We cover all costs associated with collection, transportation, and recycling of our electronic equipment disposal in an environmental friendly manner.
Optimized packaging
Optimized packaging aims to reduce CO² emission in every possible way. Our team of designers creates the best-fit packaging that's slim, compact, light and protective. Compared to the industry standard our efforts allow us to lower packaging materials and volume by 40%. This does not just allow us to reduce 40% of packaging waste, but also decrease the transportation emissions and carbon footprint by a whopping 40%.
Recycling Program
Each year ARCTIC participates in a recycling program organised by "Der Grüne Punkt" - a leading provider of take-back systems in Germany. In the year 2011, we successfully saved 23 tons of CO2, a 35% increase compared to 17 tons in the year 2010. This amount is equivalent to the carbon sequestration by 930 tree seedlings for 10 years.
We forgo using company cars and for business trips we exclusively use public transportation. Through modern means of communication we lower business travel to an absolute minimum.
We're a Carbon Neutral Company
ARCTIC is a Carbon Neutral company since the year 2011. We reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the full amount of our carbon footprint by investing into renewable energy projects and recycling.

Year 2014 – Wastewater Treatment

The wastewater cycle was installed in a starch plant 200km North-East of Bangkok, in a rural region with mostly agricultural background. The starch is produced from the region’s main product cassava roots, grown by farmers from a radius of 30 km around the plant.
Only a few years ago, the inhabitants of the surrounding villages could smell the open lagoons used for clearing the starch wastewater. Today, not only the local air and water quality has improved significantly, at the same time the starch plant managed to reduce its fossil fuel use by 80%. The now clean wastewater cycle even allows for fish farming in the water that is finally released from the new process. In addition, the project and the resulting carbon revenues generated jobs for locals and support social and educational activities in the community to enable sustainable development.
Now, the captured methane can be used for clean energy production, replacing fossil fuel for heat generation to dry the starch. Thus, the emission reduction project has a double effect, keeping methane from heating up our climate and at the same time avoiding the burning of thousands of tons of fossil fuel per year. This results in a reduction of 95,000 t CO2, which is equivalent to the carbon sequestration of 2,209,808 tree seedlings for 10 years.

Year 2013 – Hydro and Geothermal Power

We commit to the environment and thus proudly participate in a Hydropower project in Taiwan. It generates 42,000 MWh energy and reduces annual emission of 36,000 t CO2 which is equivalent to the carbon sequestration of 837,400 tree seedlings for 10 years.

But not just that! The project owner is a local farmers’ association that manages agricultural irrigation of rice and other crop fields in rural South-West Taiwan. To help its members carry the water management cost associated with the maintenance of the irrigation system, the small hydropower station was built to make use of water from the association’s existing water reservoirs.
The project involved the upgrade of turbines at an existing geothermal power plant in Indonesia to make them significantly more efficient. The plant can now generate more clean electricity from the same source of geothermal steam. In this way it delivers an additional 200,000 MWh of electricity per year to the Indonesian grid, reducing demand for fossil fuels. There is rich potential to generate geothermal electricity in Indonesia, but so far this technology is underutilised due to high
implementation costs and technical risks. With carbon funding to help mitigate these, the Gunung Salak Geothermal Project provides an example for the rest of the country. Besides the project generated 12 full time jobs, offered vocational training for unemployed women and men to work in the garment industry and funded a boarding school for girls, books and educational materials.

Year 2012 - Hydro Power and Wind Power

As a Swiss company, we are keen to share the Swiss culture of clean power generation by Hydropower. "Hydroelectric power accounts for about 56% of Switzerland's electricity production." ARCTIC is delighted to support a Hydropower energy generation project in South-West China. The hydro plants operate without dam and convert the force of water flowing through a penstock over a natural height difference into electrical energy. The emission reductions result from the replacement of other power generation methods in such as carbon intensive coal power. The achievement shows an annual CO2 reduction of 700,000 t CO2, which is equivalent to the carbon sequestration of 16,282,802 tree seedlings for 10 years.
The use of wind power for renewable energy is increasing at an annual rate of 20%. We are thrilled to make an involvement in another project located in the windy Northwest of Hebei province, Northern China. The project consists of 33 wind turbines, each with a power output of 1500 kW. The total power capacity of the windfarm is about 50 MW and the net supplied power to the grid is 115,000 MWh per year. The project contributes an annual reduction of 120,000 t CO2, which is equivalent to the carbon sequestration of 2,791,338 tree seedlings for 10 years.

Year 2011 - Landfill Gas Recovery Project

In year 2011, we engaged in a project captures methane emissions from a landfill and regenerate electricity in the region of Jiangsu Province in China. Methane is a greenhouse gas 25-times more powerful than CO2. As a result, the project contributed an annual reduction of 134,000 tons CO2, which is equivalent to the carbon sequestration of 3,116,994 tree seedlings for 10 years.

Making a difference to our environment
Overall, we are proud to contribute and be a part in these renewable energy projects, where ARCTIC promises to make a difference to everyone's life by taking responsibility for our environment. In addition to the environmental and climate benefits, the projects as well benefit the local area socio-economically by creating jobs, training and sensibilising people for environmental protection. At the same time it offers scholarship programs and mobile health units provide free examination and treatment to the local communities. Besides lowering the global greenhouse gas emissions, it significantly improves the local air, soil and water quality.
Community Initiates
In 2011, ARCTIC volunteered to support a non-profit organization. For that, we hosted a branding event in Hong Kong and raised funds for the charity 'Habitat for Humanity International'. The project helps rebuild homes for people in need around the world.
